Beim Sedlmayr

The traditional restaurant “Beim Sedlmayr” enjoys cult status in the heart of Munich’s Old city centre at the Viktualienmarkt. The former landlord Walter Sedlmayr was a beloved folk actor and author. He once opened the establishment and infused it with heart, soul, and character.

From 2025 onwards the Kuffler family has been running the “Sedlmayr”. In just 13 months, the Munich tavern was completely renovated, always in strict compliance with historic preservation guidelines and even with the involvement of archaeologists. Old bricks from the cellar floor now serve as a partition wall, the plumbing is built around the city stream, and the front doors can be fully opened. Original Sedlmayr lamps hang from the ceiling, and stones from the Isar River peek through the oak parquet flooring.
